AFQY | A Few Quiet Yarns

Networking

Networking is a skill you learn, not a gift you're born with

Ask a room of professionals how they feel about networking and nearly all of them will say the same thing: awkward. If that's you, you're not broken. You've just never been taught. Nobody is born working a room.

Ryan "the Lion" Ashton was a painfully shy kid who ended up building his whole career, and a 16-year community of New Zealand's tech leaders, on one belief:networking has achieved everything for me, and it can be learned.

Our training strips the sleaze out of networking and replaces it with five simple principles, practised live: how to approach one person, two people, or a group; how to make conversation that means something; and how to ask for what you want.

The five principles

  1. 1.We are seen before we are heard (Body language)
  2. 2.We get back what we project out (Energy)
  3. 3.Peel the layers of the onion one by one (Information)
  4. 4.Give before asking (Reciprocity)
  5. 5.Follow up (Follow up)

A full online training course is on its way. It will be part of the AFQY community platform. Sign upto be there when it lands.
